KUDZU BRAIN

Welcome to my brain. Unfortunately, it has been engulfed by a thick layer of kudzu for a while now. Fortunately, its ecosystem has adapted to survive in this environment, and even started to thrive. From afar, it may look like mounds; giant creatures all still and asleep under a blanket of foliage. A peak under the vines reveals much more.

When I forget how to be human, I turn to the trees.

My posture contorts

as if I have been growing for hundreds of years towards the sun.

And the longer I stand still
I notice my bones stretching out

splitting into parts

reaching out towards something bigger than myself.

I notice my heart aging outwards in circular rings

My legs grasping at soil
pulling themselves lower and lower into the Earth.

Reaching down towards stability; connection.

Every so often I'll come across a clearing in the forest where the Kudzu creeps along and crawls over every surface. This is where the giants sleep. Under cover from the sky and sun, blanketed in their vines.

And when the birds go silent and the rustling halts,
the forest fills up with the hum of their slumber.
